  • 12 p.m. - Huguenot High School: please arrive on time
School updates: February 20, 2024

Good Evening Huguenot Families,
This afternoon we distributed Yondr cell phone pouches to all students who were present. Almost all of our students did exactly as asked and we appreciate them for following directions and being willing to try something new. Your students need to bring their assigned pouches to school tomorrow and everyday forward here after. As we have communicated in multiple REMIND messages, our community townhall night, and the information that was mailed home to all of our homes, students will need to do the following:
1. Students will need to bring the pouch each day. Cell phones, smart watches, and headphones will be locked in their assigned pouches prior to entering the security check point. *If students locked their pouches after getting their phones out today, we will be at entrances on door 1 and 2 in the morning to unlock pouches so that students can put their phones in prior to security checkpoints.
2. Students may not bring iPads, tables, or personal computers. Only Chromebooks.
3. Students who were absent today and have not been assigned a pouch will need to proceed to the auditorium immediately in the morning to receive their pouches.
Students who do not comply with locking their devices in pouches in the morning will have their phones confiscated until the end of the day; however, we are hoping that we will see the widespread adoption we saw today.
Have a great evening,
Dr. Michael Massa,
Interim Principal, Huguenot High School

**Black History Month
Huguenot High School is celebrating Black History Month in several ways during February. Students will be holding a door decorating contest later in the month with the winning class receiving a pizza party. There are several themes that classes can choose from for decorating doors.
There will be Black History Month Spirit Week in the middle of the month with daily themes.
Huguenot High School will be announcing trivia questions each day with prizes for students who correctly answer the questions. Essays from students in our African American Studies class will also be shared at times throughout the month.
Huguenot High School is very excited to announce the 2024 Black History Essay Contest that take place at the end of the month. Participants are asked to research a distinguished Black American who has left an unforgettable mark on the world with his or her contribution(s). Write about their influence and reflect on how their achievements continue to shape and inspire society today. The winner will be announced at the end of the month and will receive a prize provided by donations from faculty and staff members at Huguenot High School.
In addition to these building-wide celebrations, Huguenot teachers continue to provide a plethora of instruction and activities throughout our curriculum related to the contributions of Black Americans. We would like to thank April Wilson, the Huguenot High School Social Studies Department Chair, for leading this important effort.
**High Flying Falcons
Each month we will be featuring three faculty and staff members who have received the “High Flying Falcon” awards. During our January faculty meeting, we celebrated the following staff members:
Tina Burton- English teacher
Patricia Kent- Math Teacher
Tiffany Garland- Front Office Associate/Manager
All three of these members of the Huguenot High School Family contribute to our students’ well-being, and learning through their roles in supporting teachers and students. They are a positive influence on the culture of our school. We thank them for all that they do to make Huguenot Special. Next month they will pass on their award trophies to the faculty and staff members of their choice.
Thank you, and have a pleasant evening.

School Updates: Week of Jan. 21-27, 2024

Good Evening Huguenot High School Families,
Welcome to the second semester of the 2023-2024 school year! We have made lots of progress in the first half of this school year. Discipline data is significantly down from previous years, and our chronic absenteeism is down 10% as of tonight, surpassing our goals and bringing us well within the accreditation window for that specific standard. Our SOL scores have shown improvement in many areas; however, there is more work to be done. We hope to continue to make strong gains in SOLs during our second semester. We are also excited to continue to expand AP offerings at Huguenot and are excited about expanding activities, clubs, and athletic opportunities at Huguenot High School including a student advocacy club and a Tennis team. We have also made headway in hiring to fill vacant positions over the winter break which included three math teachers, and an exceptional education teacher. We hope that you will consider attending tomorrow night’s Dreams4RPS meeting from 5:30 to 7 PM and join future PTA meetings. We look forward to strengthening our partnership between school and home and working together as we move toward sustained greatness for our students at Huguenot High School.
Here are important updates from Huguenot High School:
*Semester 2 Homerooms and Schedules*
The second semester starts tomorrow. Under our “four by four” your student will be heading to all new classes on Monday. You can access the parent portal to go over your student’s schedule and homeroom location tonight. Tomorrow morning Huguenot High School will be holding a homeroom where paper copies of schedules will be distributed to students. If your student is going to miss tomorrow, he or she may retrieve a copy of his or her schedule from the main office for the remainder of the week if they have not already received it in homeroom. Schedules may sometimes be modified as the semester starts if additional class leveling is needed or mistakes are found on some schedules.
*Report Cards*
Report cards will be given directly to students this Friday, January 26. We will send a reminder before the report cards come home. On Friday final semester 1 grades will also be accessible through the parent portal.
The Dreams4RPS Strategic Planning event will take place from 5:30 PM to 7 PM tomorrow, Monday, January 22, 2024. We are excited to discuss and provide input into the RPS 2024-2029 Dreams4RPS strategic plan!
*YONDR Cellphone Pouch Pilot Update*
The YONDR cell phone pouch pilot program will begin later this semester. Huguenot will be sharing the date of our YONDR community meeting, and our start date later this week in a REMIND message and letter on Friday with report cards. The program starts soon but does not start tomorrow.
Health Services is planning to hold vaccination clinics for our high school students in February and March of 2024. Vaccines will be provided by (RHHD) Richmond Henrico Health District, and there will be no out-of-pocket cost to our students.
*Arrival Reminder*
Car riders, please make sure to arrive a school prior to 8:50 in order to be on time to class which begins at 9:00AM each morning.

Thank you for all that you do in support of our school and have a wonderful evening!
