This week: April 6-11, 2026
Good evening Huguenot Families,
I hope everyone had a restful and refreshing Spring Break. We look forward to seeing all of our students back at school.
We are now in the final part of the school year. We need to make sure that students are here every day, ready to learn, and doing their best. Many fun end-of-year activities are coming up, including prom, field day, and graduation. Students need to make sure that they continue to make good choices and come to school every day so that they can join in all upcoming events.
Test Preparation
Tutoring and test preparation can now be done online. It is not just in person after school. Please click this document to see specific tutoring times, locations, and links for each subject. We will add more tutoring times as they become available. We also suggest that students ask their teachers about tutoring times they or other teachers might be offering in specific areas.***Students must have their Chromebook cameras on and their faces visible during tutoring. If not, they will be removed from the sessions.
Pass Restriction/Smart Pass Trial
Recently, Huguenot High School has seen more students walking in the halls. This happens for many reasons. Some students ask for a pass each period to use the restroom or to meet friends. We are taking two actions to address this:
1. Immediate Action: Teachers will set limits on how many passes students can use for classes. This will happen if a student has many absences, uses too many passes, or is often late. This is not to punish students. It is to make sure students are in class and do not miss important lessons. First, teachers or school staff will call the student's caregiver to let them know about the pass limit. Then, they will add the student to a list that helps enforce the limits in the hallways. The pass limit will greatly lower the number of passes your student gets each week.
2. Long Term: Some teachers and hallways at Huguenot will test a SmartPass system for students. We will start using this system next school year. Students can log in and ask their teacher for a digital pass. They can use their Chromebook as a pass. School staff can watch pass times and places. They can also see data that shows when friends might ask for passes at the same time. They can see if passes were held for too long or used too often. We hope to start the test in some classrooms the week after spring break. We will share information about the experience and plans for the next school year over the summer.
Your students' teachers will contact you if there is a problem with attendance. This way, we can work together to help the student.

We look forward to a memorable evening celebrating our junior and senior Falcons.
Flexible Instruction Time
Students who need Flexible Instruction Time (FIT) to make up for missed days can stay after school for HSS Academy. This program runs Monday through Thursday, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Students should go to the cafeteria when school ends. Then, they will go to a classroom for tutoring. Transportation is available.
Dr. Mayo, Acting Substitute Assistant Principal
Our 9th-grade assistant principal, Ms. Millner, is not in the building right now. Until she returns, Dr. Craig Mayo will be the acting administrator at Huguenot High School. Dr. Mayo has experience as a long-time administrator in Richmond Public Schools. Dr. Mayo will help our dean of students with supervision and discipline. He will also be the temporary administrator for the 9th grade until Ms. Millner returns.
Important Reminder (Testing Rules): Please remember that students cannot wear any head coverings during tests. They also cannot have any devices that can communicate or are smart devices with them while testing.
Dress Code: The following information is the dress code from S.C.O.R.E.(The RPS Student Code of Responsible Ethics):
A student's clothing and appearance should not be indecent or create health or safety problems in the school.
Students MUST wear:
Tops and bottoms, or similar clothing like dresses.
Shoes. Sandals are allowed. However, students must wear proper athletic shoes for Physical Education (PE) class. They should also be more careful during recess. **The School Board of the City of Richmond and/or Richmond Public Schools is not responsible for any injuries that happen because students wear the wrong shoes.**
Clothing that covers private body parts, buttocks, and chest with materials that you cannot see through.
Students CAN wear:
Clothing with company or sports slogans.
Tight pants (like yoga pants, leggings, and skinny jeans).
Jeans with rips, as long as underwear is not showing.
Students wearing clothes that do not match their perceived gender is not a problem.
Students CANNOT wear:
Underwear that can be seen, or swimsuits with similar designs.
Clothes with pictures or words that show drug use, alcohol, illegal activities, threats, or unfair slogans.
Clothes with hate speech, bad words, or pornography.
Pictures or words that make the learning environment feel unsafe or scary because of someone's identity or group.
Hats, caps, scarves, sweatbands, bandanas, face masks, or head coverings are not allowed inside a school building. There are some exceptions: a.) when worn for religious beliefs, b.) when worn for health or safety reasons, c.) when worn for a school-sponsored program. Face masks or coverings can be worn if needed due to circumstances like COVID-19 or medical reasons.
Clear Backpacks
Students may only have a clear book bag at Richmond Public Schools. Students with bags that are not clear will have their bags taken away. Spring sports are starting soon. Athletes can drop their sports bags in the bins when they enter the building. There are only a few months of school left. We still have clear backpack replacements. You can also find many different clear book bags on online stores like Amazon. These bags come at different prices. For more information, including what types of clear book bags are allowed, click HERE for the Richmond Public Schools clear book bag rules.
Outside Food or Drink
This is a reminder that students cannot bring outside food or drinks into the school. This rule does not apply to food packed for lunch in their bookbag before they arrive at school. This means food bought or packed before school and kept in their bookbags when they enter the school is allowed. Also, drinks with lids that can be removed, are not sealed, or are in glass containers are not allowed. Students who leave the technical center and return to school on their own cannot bring outside food into the building when they come back.
Cell Phones
Cell phones and headphones must be turned off and put away from the start to the end of the day(from bell to bell). At Huguenot High School, students must put their cell phones in the hanging sleeves in each classroom during class. School leaders are doing classroom visits to check that cell phones are placed in the sleeves correctly.
Outside Devices (Computers/Tablets)
This is a reminder that iPads, computers, tablets, or other devices besides Chromebooks are not allowed at school. Students who bring these devices may have them taken away.
Thank you. Stay safe.
