Dr. Michael Massa, Principal

Dr. Mike Massa, Principal

Dr. Massa is a proud educator and lifelong learner. He earned all of his degrees from Virginia Commonwealth University and has served as a school administrator for over 12 years including 5 years previously as a high school principal. “Dr. M” as he is referred to at Huguenot High School, is a firm believer in the power of public schools in breaking down systemic barriers to student success. In his spare time, Dr. M enjoys spending time with his wife Ryan, and children Henry (13) and Florence (8). Dr. M also fronts an indie rock band and is a proud member of the Richmond music scene. 

Mr. Lyons Sanchezconcha, Assistant Principal: Seniors

Lyons Sanchezconcha, or "Mr. S," has been a member of the Falcon Family since August of 2016. He has served in various roles alongside the students, faculty, and staff of the Huguenot high school, and he is thrilled to be assistant principal overseeing the graduating class of 2025! Mr. Sanchezconcha will be overseeing Math, World Languages, and Language Instruction Education Programs (LIEP) as well as school attendance and crisis response teams.

Mr. S was born in Lima, Peru, and he immigrated to Sterling, Virginia at a young age where he was a former ESL student. He studied at Northern Virginia Community College, the University of Virginia, and most recently, Educational Leadership and Policy at the University of Richmond. He is passionate about helping students reach success through their education and by developing their student self-efficacy. In his free time, Mr. S enjoys hanging out with his puppy Douglas. Let's go Falcons!

Ms. LaTonia Kelley, Assistant Principal: Sophomores

Ms.Kelley is entering her 11th year in education.  Prior to joining the Huguenot family, she taught Mathematics in Newport News and Richmond. Ms. Kelley served as the Mathematics Department Chair and Instructional Coach at John Marshall High School.  She has also served as a Secondary Math Instructional Specialist for Richmond Public Schools.  Ms. Kelley was named the 2019 Teacher of the Year for An Achievable Dream Middle and High School and the 2020 New Teacher of the Year at John Marshall High School.  Ms. Kelley loves building relationships with students and families and encouraging students to set goals for life after high school.  In her spare time, Ms. Kelley loves spending time with her fiance and three children. Ms. Kelley earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and a Master of Teaching in Secondary Mathematics from Hampton University.  She also earned a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Old Dominion University.

Mr. Ryan James, Assistant Principal, Freshmen

Mr. James comes to Huguenot High School after serving 13 years at Lucille Brown Middle School as a
Social Studies teacher. Throughout his tenure at Lucille Brown, he also served as the Social Studies
Department Chair, head football coach and assistant basketball coach. Mr. James is known for
encouraging students to chase their dreams and helps them in planning post-graduation aspirations.
During his time at Lucille Brown, Mr. James took several groups of students on field trips to college
campuses in the effort to motivate students to pursue higher education. He was named Lucille Brown
Teacher of the Year in 2016, and was awarded the National Milken Educator Award in 2017. Mr. James is
a 2011 graduate from James Madison University and earned his Master’s in Educational Leadership in
2023 from American College of Education.

Mrs. Jamia Garrett , Assistant Principal, Juniors

Mrs. Garrett is excited to begin her eighteenth year in education with the Huguenot High School Falcon Family!  As a product of Richmond Public Schools, graduating from Richmond Community High School, she matriculated to the University of Virginia where she earned her undergraduate degree in History.  Additionally, she has earned a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Averett University, and a Post-Master's Certificate in Educational Leadership and Administration from George Washington University.  

She has served families in Richmond and Henrico in various capacities that include Social Studies Teacher, PBIS Coach, Department Chair, Site Coordinator and Director of Operations.  In 2013, she was named Teacher of the Year for T.H. Henderson Middle School.  In addition to continuing the legacy of educators in her family, she enjoys spending quality time with her husband and two daughters, who are also students in RPS.
